As Above So Below
Originally recorded on the ancient emerald tablet, the hermetic principle, “As Above so Below” has resonated with anyone interested in exploring the nature of reality for centuries. It is used as a reminder that the macrocosm of the universe and the microcosm of human experience are not separate entities but parts of the same whole that reflect and shape one another in a constant dance.
In this collaborative exhibition, Kayla Billings, Mickie Masters, and Alexandria Joliat invite viewers to step into a world of mysticism and folklore, inspired by the magic that exists all around us. Through a mix of paper collage, mixed media painting, and ink drawing, the three artists express their shared philosophies through their own distinct styles and perspectives.
Viewers are encouraged to consider the profound interconnectedness of all things recognizing that any shift within the self will always be reverberated through the greater whole. "As above so below, as within so without, as the universe so the soul.”

PAINTING WITH PAPER
My practice pushes the boundaries of the paper collage medium through an emerging and unique technique called painting with paper.
I intuitively choose and hand cut thousands of magazine page fragments, then reassemble these pieces in a way that mimics a painters brushstrokes to create highly textured intricate collages.
Inspired by dreams, memory, and spirituality my art serves as self exploration. I believe a form of creative expression and a relationship with the self are absolutely essential to a fulfilling life. Transforming commercial media into personal puzzles where every single piece is an indispensable part of a whole is a reflection of my own never ending process of self integration.
